In our solution we have fully integrated TMS in our CCMS and it is hard to imagine how a separate system could even work.Jari Ojanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6748877443699290050.post-71551341797607192992017-01-14T00:06:19.023-08:002017-01-14T00:06:19.023-08:00As part of our home-grown TMS, we at STAR Servicio...As part of our home-grown TMS, we at STAR Servicios Lingüísticos have developed a module for the semantic categorization of the linguistic resources that we use to carry out our translation services (dictionaries, translation memories, etc.). One of the difficulties is the semantic categorization itself. How do you go about it? Do you use a fixed nomenclature (such systems are complex and at the same time always incomplete) or free keyword assignation (that leads to a chaotic semantic categorization)? And, as Luigi points out in one of his comments to the article, the semantic categorization has to be carried out by humans and that leads back to the TPM profile and their training / education. I sort of instantly thought "Why is the article not entitled 'The opportunity of TMS'. Why the "Missed"? TMS are relatively new, and it is a technology that tries to automate tasks of highly complex nature. And although the article provides some insight, it is also a bit of a rant about the translation community. If someone teach young people how to do this, well, that'd be great.Luigi Muziihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11617962606487603486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6748877443699290050.post-49724506893314184052017-01-13T11:37:52.231-08:002017-01-13T11:37:52.231-08:00Kirti, thanks for the thought provoking suggestion...Kirti, thanks for the thought provoking suggestions. I would say the issue I still run into the most often is interoperability with external systems especially CMS. Although many companies have made a lot of progress in this area these are usually tied to specific solutions and/or are very expensive and so are only ideal for very large accounts.Tom Alwoodhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/tomalwoodnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6748877443699290050.post-21627453830198525352017-01-13T11:35:33.369-08:002017-01-13T11:35:33.369-08:00Luigi, The TMS vendors could help this along by cr...Luigi, The TMS vendors could help this along by creating a metadata editor that allows post facto adjustments to add things likes domain, quality rating, client, yes/no on general reuse, etc..

Can you please clarify what you mean by TPM? please let me add this to your introduction...Kirti,
please let me add this to your introduction: to extract any specific language data from a central repository, metadata is necessary, and this come from descriptions users should input.
This leads back to the TPM profile and the education and training of TPMs. TPMs are pivotal and will be more and more important, but the lack of relevant and quality education and training both on the professional and the academic side of the translation community is scaring.
Continuiamo così, facciamoci del male (Let's keep on like this, let's get hurt.)Luigi Muziihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11617962606487603486noreply@blogger.com
